Then, as an officer with a TS, an agency is more likely to take you seriously.īut your head is in the right place! Don't rush into a decision, take time to talk and think about it. My state sent like 3 people home during deployment for OCS. A good NG will let you go to OCS during your enlisted contract. Get some enlisted experience, get school all/mostly paid for during degree then commission after college. Enlisted through college then commission after isnt a terrible idea. Like others have mentioned, CIA and such arent really going to care about a 18-19 y/o 'kid' with 6 months of military experience. MI can give you a TS even enlisted, but especially as an officer. Top secrets are expensive and time consuming, so many businesses and agencies arent keen and getting them for people. Use your network to land a gig in the private sector or as a contractor (big money)Ī good suggestion is going into a MOS that will give you a top secret clearance.Deal with having a so-so entry level cyber job.Hone your skills as an officer in your MOS.Complete your 4 years of school/ROTC while raking in good cadet money (by now you'll have a good grasp on military life and the workings of your major).Major in cyber security or something else related.I'm just an Infantry guy with a marketing degree, but I know that if I were you, I would:

The military tends to make people hate being a government employee. While you might feel mature and grown, 6 years from now (one contract later) you'll likely be a very different person.

But if you feel like you're set on working for the government for a good chunk of your career, then I don't see why you shouldn't specialize your degree. With a business degree you'll at least have a broader job prospect if you have a change of heart.
